I had the opportunity to direct this spin-off of the classic VR game Pixel Ripped: 1995.
As Creative Director and Narrative Designer, I expanded the beloved Pixel Ripped universe into a unique in-car VR experience.
Pixel Ripped 1995: On the Road! builds on the series’ nostalgic 2D platformer roots while introducing a groundbreaking mechanic: the real movements of the car directly affect the gameplay, blending the player’s real-world environment with the game world in dynamic new ways.
The story follows David on a holiday road trip with his parents as they drive to visit his grandmother before Christmas. What begins as a cozy family journey quickly turns chaotic when Cyblin Lord crashes the trip, determined to stop Dot from rescuing her kidnapped Game Dimension friends, all for his own... birthday party?!
Armed with his new Gear Kid Color, David must unlock cartridges to save each of Dot’s friends while iconic road trip moments — from I Spy to car sing-alongs — blur the line between the Human and Game Worlds. Packed with humor, nostalgia, and meta twists, the game offers a playful new perspective on a VR classic, all set within the confines of the Keane family car.

Like any bored kid on a road trip, David turns to his trusty Gear Kid—the catalyst for our adventure. Embodying David, players must uncover and unlock all three cartridges, each holding a unique challenge, to reach the journey’s end and complete the adventure.

Real World Interactions
Life won’t be easy for David on this road trip. The game’s antagonist, Cyblin Lord, will do everything in his power to stop David from reaching his goal. Along the way, he brings real-world interactions into the adventure, twisting classic road trip tropes like I Spy With My Little Eye and Sing Along into challenges that will test David at every turn.
